The second Regional Joint Sector Review was jointly inaugurated this morning by regional administrator Mr. Bijaya Kumar Mallik, Mid West DWSS Director Binod Kumar Agrawal and Far West DWSS director Shrawan Kumar Upadhaya.
About 40 participants from District level Government Agencies representing DWSS, DoLIDAR, Health, Education and Women Development, and from regional and district NGOs and CSOs are meeting to bring their experiences to bear on national sector development.
The two Regions have had a late start in WASH sector investment but in the last decade they have made important progress in water supply and sanitation coverage. Still, remoteness, harsh climatic conditions and demographic transformation are providing challenges in particular in terms of providing services to the unreached.
Also in cultural terms, the promotion of ODF and the elimination of the Chaupadhi practice continue to take a lot of effort.
We look forward to the observations of the Far and Mid West during this Regional Joint Sector Review and their contributions to the debate on the Sector Development Plan for the next 5 years.
